Job Details
The Wadsworth Center (Albany, NY) is seeking an outstanding scientist at the Associate Professor level to establish a competitive, grant-funded research program and to assist the Lab Chief with management of the Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry. Research areas of interest include inorganic mass spectrometry, inorganic analytical chemistry, human biomonitoring, environmental radioactivity, nuclear chemistry, X-ray spectrometry, and radiobioassay. The successful applicant will synergize their research with current research at the Wadsworth Center, with scientists specializing in organic mass spectrometry, environmental chemistry, organic analytical chemistry, and environmental biology. Applicants with an existing, externally funded research program, and with prior lab management experience are especially encouraged to apply.
The Wadsworth Center (www.wadsworth.org) is the country’s most comprehensive state public health laboratory with a staff of about 750, that includes over 100 doctoral level scientists. The Center provides a dynamic research environment focused on environmental, infectious, and genetic diseases and their impact on human health.
The successful applicant will receive a start-up package, 12-month salary, and access to outstanding laboratory facilities. Suitably qualified candidates may be eligible to apply for a joint academic appointment in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, based in the University at Albany’s School of Public Health.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate in the natural sciences and three years of professional post-degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a master’s degree and five years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A doctorate in the physical sciences (inorganic chemistry; analytical chemistry; nuclear chemistry or related field), and ten years of experience managing a successful research team with external funding as a principal investigator.
