Job Details

The Washington, D.C. office of an international law firm (with a focus on life sciences-related regulatory work) is seeking an experienced Ph.D. Toxicologist to work in their Washington, D.C. office for its food packaging practice group.  In this non-laboratory position, the individual will assist our attorneys and other in-house staff scientists with regulatory evaluations of food-contact materials marketed worldwide by reviewing and evaluating existing chemical safety data, performing structure-activity evaluations, conducting risk assessments, and advising on appropriate toxicity testing to support the safety of components of food packaging materials.  A minimum of 5 years of experience in food, food-contact, or chemical safety evaluations is required, with a strong preference for experience in evaluating data relevant to oral exposures (including feeding studies, genotoxicity data, and low dose exposure literature).  Experience with U.S. regulatory and risk assessment schemes (FDA, EPA, Cal EPA, etc.) is a plus, as is familiarity with the corresponding schemes in Europe (EFSA, ECHA, etc.).

This is an opportunity to be part of a collegial and dynamic scientific staff that includes more than 20 other scientific professionals.  The successful candidate will enjoy assisting companies with new product introductions, partnering with non-scientific staff on legal and regulatory issues, and working in a team environment.  Occasional travel and speaking opportunities may be available.

We offer an excellent benefits package, bonus plan, and salary commensurate with experience.

Send resume and cover letter to Jennifer Ireland, Human Resources and Recruitment Manager, Keller and Heckman LLP, 1001 G Street, NW, Suite 500 West, Washington, DC 20001 to careers@khlaw.com.  E.O.E.
