(Full-time) Tenure-track Position in Biochemistry/Biology

The Division of Science & Engineering at Penn State University Abington College seeks one (1) tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Biochemistry. This position is a nine-month appointment, starting August 2024, and comes with excellent fringe benefits that include retirement plans, health, dental, vision, and prescription drug insurance, reduced tuition rates for dependents, and optional long-term disability insurance. The review process will begin November 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in the discipline of Biochemistry or related field by August 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to 1) teach nine (9) contact hours per semester including a two-semester sequence in upper-level biochemistry and introductory to advanced undergraduate courses in biology; 2) advise majors related to their discipline; 3) develop a robust research program that can lead to publications, external grant funding, etc.; and 4) provide service to the Division and College. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach students from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds and foster student success through engagement both inside and outside the classroom. Inclusion of undergraduate students in research opportunities is encouraged.

Applicants should submit 1) a cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae, including the names and contact information of at least three references; 3) a list of courses taught at the university level; 4) a statement on their experience with and teaching pedagogy for addressing the learning needs of diverse and first-generation students in higher education; and 5) a research statement including a list of major pieces of equipment necessary to perform the research.
