The Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of South Carolina Upstate invites applications for Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with a start date of August 16, 2024. Areas of interest are physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, and/or computational chemistry. The successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load including undergraduate senior-level physical chemistry courses as well as lower-level chemistry courses for majors and non-majors, develop a scholarly research program involving undergraduate students, advise undergraduate students, and participate in service (internal as well as external). The Division awards an ACS-certified Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a non-ACS-certified Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. The Division maintains an array of modern instrumentation including a Bruker 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, two Nicolet FTIR spectrometers with ATR accessories, a Shimadzu GCMS, a Shimadzu HPLC with PDA/fluorescence detection systems, a Jasco spectrofluorometer, a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 750 UV/Vis/NIR spectrometer, a TA Q50 TGA, a TA Q20 DSC, a BioRad ChemiDoc Imager System, BioRad Termocycler, Keyence Inverted Fluorescence Microscope, an Agilent BioTek Synergy HTX Reader, a -80 freezer, plus a Metrohm ion chromatograph, a CEM microwave digester, and assorted UV/Vis spectrophotometers.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry is required by the start date of the appointment. ABD candidates with a completion date no later than August 15, 2024, are welcome to apply. A successful background check is required.
