Position Summary:
The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau (UAS) seeks applications from exceptionally qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, to begin August 2024. Applications must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field. This tri-partite position involves teaching, research and service and supports the undergraduate BA/BS programs in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine Biology, and Fisheries, as well as a Chemistry minor.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower and upper division courses in chemistry and organic chemistry, develop a robust externally-funded research program that involves undergraduate students, and engage in professional, university, and community outreach and service. Preference will be given to candidates whose research can complement existing strengths in the Natural Sciences Department, and we are particularly interested in candidates working in basic and applied Environmental Chemistry.
UAS is a small liberal arts university, and is a federally recognized Alaska Native-serving institution. The campus resides on the unceded territory of the Áakʼw Ḵwaan on Lingit Aani, also known as Juneau and Douglas, Alaska, which also houses neighboring X̱ aadas and Ts'msyen peoples. UAS Juneau campus is located 12 miles north of downtown Juneau in a beautiful setting overlooking Auke Bay on one side and Auke Lake and the Mendenhall Glacier on the other. Juneau (population 32,000), the capital of Alaska, is a picturesque city with a mild, maritime climate, exceptional outdoor and recreation venues, and a lively arts community.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment with a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package that includes negotiable relocation funds.
