Position title: Assistant Professor

Salary range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $97,000-$130,000. ​
The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale of this position ( The base salary range, from the salary table, for this position is $74,600-$97,200.
“Off-scale salaries”, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY ( and DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS ( within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in computational biophysical sciences at the nexus of statistical mechanics, data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in multidisciplinary collaborations across various departments, and contribute to an environment that fosters excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to develop a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education as well as to helping shape and expand the University's diversity initiatives (

Teaching in general chemistry, biophysics, physical chemistry, and related topics will be expected. Ideally, the candidate will have skills and interest in teaching lecture and lab courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or a closely related field and demonstrated ability to develop a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research.
Candidate must have an evidence of scholarly impact, evidence of research productivity, and ability to advice and teach students.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Candidates must receive their Ph.D. before July 1, 2024.

Preferred qualifications

Candidate who has already demonstrated creativity, excellence and ability to develop a transformative independent research program in computational biophysical sciences.
Candidate who will benefit from synergy with existing infrastructure and collaboration opportunities while also bringing new perspective and expertise.
A candidate with a well-defined plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences.
A candidate with skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
