Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at Skidmore College invites applications from qualified individuals for a two-year Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor position in Organic Chemistry, beginning in the Fall of 2023. Skidmore is a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs, New York with a student population of 2,600, 26% of whom are domestic students of color, 10% are international students, and 15% are first generation students. The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their inclusive teaching. Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students in a vibrant and collaborative, undergraduate environment is essential. A Ph.D. in chemistry is preferred, prior teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Organic Chemistry lecture and/or laboratory courses and contribute to introductory chemistry courses in our ACS certified chemistry program. The average teaching load is 9 contact hours per semester (18 contact hours per year) where lecture sections are 3 contact hours and labs are 3-4 contact hours, and laboratory class sizes are typically limited to 16 students or fewer. Additional compensation for summer instruction is sometimes possible. Skidmore supports faculty in many ways, including internal grants for faculty development, a new faculty learning community, a Center for Teaching and Learning, and funds to travel to meetings. Skidmore has completed the first two of three phases of the innovative Center for Integrated Sciences (CIS). Accordingly, the Chemistry Department is now housed in entirely newly constructed spaces in CIS. Please visit https://www.skidmore.edu/chemistry/search/ for additional information including about teaching loads, resources available, the search process, and the new CIS teaching labs.
