Job Details

The Chemistry Department at Hofstra University (www.hofstra.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry beginning September 1, 2024. Any area spanning organic chemistry will be considered. Successful candidates will be able to teach organic chemistry (lecture and lab) and will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load alternates between 2 and 3 courses per semester. The Chemistry Department serves only undergraduate students, with small class sizes (10-20) for junior and senior majors. The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry (with ACS accreditation), as well as Forensic Science.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant research program centered on undergraduates and seek grant funding. Competitive start-up funding will be provided to enable the successful candidate to launch their research agenda. Intra- and extramural research collaborations are strongly encouraged. The candidate will also provide service to the department, college, and university. Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate students and individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in organic chemistry or related field required by time of employment. Potential to establish a successful research program involving undergraduate students. Experience teaching undergraduate chemistry courses Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postdoctoral or industry work experience Previous experience mentoring undergraduate students Recent peer-reviewed publications Instructor-of-record for undergraduate organic chemistry course(s)
