THE POSITION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time, tenure-track position in chemistry. Course assignments include chemistry for nursing majors, introductory and general chemistry. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Contribute to the growth and development of the chemistry program at Compton College. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in chemistry OR Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master's degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics OR The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above OR Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject AND Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in chemistry OR

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master's degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above OR

Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject AND Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent community college teaching experience; demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods; ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles; ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery; effective oral and written communication skills.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

SALARY RANGE: $59,503 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

 

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

 

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

 

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full-time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 20, 2024.
