Position Summary:
The Senior Marketing Manager reports directly to the Director of Marketing and is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing marketing efforts for a set of assigned products and services produced by the Society’s publishing division.
Primary Responsibilities:
Devise and execute strategies that drive manuscript submissions and usage of products and that best meet the needs of major constituencies.
Develop comprehensive marketing plans annually to market assigned journals/products.
Implement marketing plans by developing and distributing email campaigns, and coordinating targeted list development for email promotions.
Uses predictive behavior techniques to drive submissions, published papers, and revenue for assigned products.
Develop and analyze digital advertising initiatives to drive submissions, published papers, and revenue for assigned products.
Prepare marketing activity reports and present to key stakeholders for assigned products.
Analyze the competitor landscape to ensure awareness of and acting on events, trends, etc., that affect the publishing division and its work for assigned products.
Regularly track the success of all marketing activities for assigned products, including implementing A/B testing and adjusting strategies and tactics based on results. Part of campaign tracking involves assisting with the maintenance of a monthly dashboard.
Following brand guidelines, oversee design of a variety of print and electronic collateral including advertisements, flyers, graphics for social media, emails, etc., for assigned products.
Works closely with other members of the publishing division and the centralized marketing team to implement marketing initiatives associated with the Society’s strategic priorities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of marketing channels including direct mail, e-marketing, digital advertising, social media, and customer relationship marketing.
A minimum of 7-10 years marketing management experience, preferably with a scholarly or scientific publisher.
Experience in, or an in-depth understanding of, volunteer management and/or scientific societies preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Dynamic individual with strong marketing, planning, and execution skills.
Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills required.
Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
Ability to manage vendors including designers, mail houses, outsource providers, and printers.
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
Basic familiarity with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop a plus but not required.
Ability to effectively work with all departments within Optica and to successfully represent the managed products and services to external parties.
