The incumbent serves as Research Leader for the Bioenergy Research Unit, National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR), Peoria, Illinois, leading a broad research program to develop commercially applicable processes for conversion of agricultural commodities into biofuels, chemicals, and other co-products that add value to biorefinery process streams.
As Research Leader, the incumbent:
- Provides vision and exercises leadership
- Establishes an advisory stakeholder base
- Maximizes the creativity and productivity of the unit
- Hires personnel, serves as the Unit fundholder, and otherwise manages the human, fiscal, and physical resources assigned to the unit
- Provides technical information and consultation both internal and external to ARS
- Ensures the proper interpretation and reporting of scientific research results for the unit
