ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY
WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wichita State University (WSU) invites applications for a benefit-eligible, tenure-track position in Computational Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August of 2025.
A successful candidate is expected to actively and deeply engage in teaching, research and service. Tenure-track and tenured professors typically teach 3 courses per year and a lighter load of 1/1 in their first two years. Courses may be foundational general chemistry courses for majors and non-majors, physical chemistry and other courses consistent with department needs and candidate interest. Successful candidates are expected to develop a high-quality, visible and externally funded research program for undergraduate and graduate students with work published in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the vibrancy and shared governance of the department by engaging in service at the department, college, or university levels.

The Department
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Wichita State University with degrees certified by the American Chemical Society is an exciting workplace where collaborative opportunities exist with department colleagues and other colleagues from across campus. The department offers B.S. degrees in both Chemistry and Biochemistry and a growing graduate program including both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry. Recognizing the value of hands-on training opportunities, the department also supports undergraduate research projects where students gain experience using a wide array of shared instrumentation including a recently installed Bruker 500 MHz NMR. WSU also maintains a high-performance computing cluster, BeoShock, that boasts four GPUs and 720 CPU "cores" and is available free-of-charge for both research and teaching needs.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a PhD in chemistry, computational biology, biophysics, or a related field, and post-doctoral experience.
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprising individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.
- We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
