The School of Chemistry and Materials Science (SCMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, beginning in August 2025.

Required Qualifications:

• A PhD degree in biochemistry or a closely related discipline
• Postdoctoral research experience
• Evidence of sustained peer reviewed publications in disciplinary journals
• A proposed independent research program that is aligned with current federal funding opportunities.
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.

Preferred Qualifications - Priority will be given to candidates whose research program:

• is focused at the interface of biochemistry and machine learning/artificial intelligence/computational modeling;
• will attract external funding from agencies such as NIH, NSF, industry, or other governmental or private sources;
• will incorporate both undergraduate and graduate students at RIT.

Department/College Description

Along with a core strength in technology and experiential learning, RIT is building excellence in AI research, scholarship, and innovation through strategic investments in talent, thematic hires, and research infrastructure. Concurrently, we focus on offering the most innovative and compelling curriculum and courses. As we embark on our plans for our future, we continue our quest to establish RIT as a thought leader in AI by grappling with its many challenges through multidisciplinary perspectives (taken from RIT’s Vision and Strategic Direction).

The College of Science currently has strategic research areas, including efforts to attract and retain high-quality, diverse faculty, students, and staff; to ensure an inclusive campus culture and a global mindset; to advance research and scholarship; to capitalize on key partnerships and current strengths to increase the community, regional, and global impact of COS; and to incentivize, support, recognize, and reward scholarly engagement activities by students, faculty, and staff. We plan to hire faculty who can contribute to some or all of these strategic priorities.

The School of Chemistry & Materials Science (SCMS) offers an ASBMB-accredited BS in Biochemistry, an ACS-approved BS in Chemistry, Master's degrees in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and several BS/MS program options. SCMS faculty also support PhD students in various interdisciplinary PhD programs on the RIT campus. Biochemistry faculty at RIT currently have sustained funding from NIH and NSF with combined expertise in wet lab and computational methods. The school currently has 23 faculty members, including 6 biochemists, and supports approximately 150 BS Biochemistry and Chemistry majors, 20 MS students in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and many BS/MS students.
