Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan is a dynamic department with a long tradition of excellence in the chemical sciences, and we invite applications for tenure-track positions in any area of chemistry (including analytical, chemical biology, education, inorganic, materials, organic, and physical) with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2025. Applicants must have a Ph.D., and these positions will be University-year appointments (9-months academic-year salary with summer salary supported by research funds). We seek candidates who will cultivate an internationally recognized program of scholarly research, excel in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, promote an inclusive scholarly environment, and commit to building a diverse intellectual community. There are three ways to apply for positions, and we highly encourage applying to more than one of these opportunities in order to be considered for each.

First, applicants can apply to the Department of Chemistry. Application materials include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of future research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement that describes your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching/mentoring AND/OR research and scholarship, AND/OR, service and engagement. There may be some overlap among these statements. Applications should also submit names and contact information for three letters of reference. The deadline for submission is October 1, 2024. For more information, see Faculty Search | U-M LSA Chemistry.

Furthermore, interested applicants can apply to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts LSA Collegiate Fellows Program, which seeks to recruit and hire exceptional tenure-track assistant- and newly tenured associate professors whose teaching/mentoring, AND/OR research and scholarship, AND/OR service and engagement contribute to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the chemical sciences. The deadline for submission is October 15, 2024. For more information, see LSA Collegiate Fellowship Program.

Lastly, interested applicants can apply to the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT), which aims to achieve greater inclusive excellence in the biomedical and health sciences. This hiring program, funded by the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), aims to recruit faculty with a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) via their scholarship, teaching, and/or service activities with research interests suitable for funding by the NIH. This call is part of a broader university effort to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences community.  The deadline for submission is October 15, 2024. For more information, see Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation - U-M Research.

For questions regarding any of these hiring opportunities, please contact the Department of Chemistry at chemfacrecruit@umich.edu.

Offers for these appointments are contingent on successful completion of a background screening.  The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.
