The incumbent serves as a Research Materials Engineer/Chemist in the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, Plant Polymer Research Unit in Peoria, IL. The Research Unit conducts basic and applied research to enable new, high-value applications for plant-derived polymers, such as proteins, polysaccharides, and lignin, to support the U.S. agricultural economy and societies’ need for more environmentally friendly products. The incumbent conducts research to enable the use of agricultural polymers in composites to provide both biodegradable and non-biodegradable bioplastics/biocomposites. The incumbent will develop a stakeholder base to advocate for enhancing ARS research programs and to enable commercialization of new bioplastics/biocomposites and other green technologies to meet technology transfer objectives.
