Assistant/Associate Professor of Neuroscience/Biochemistry
Merrimack College is excited to announce an opportunity to contribute to the creation
of an outstanding regional research university. The School of Arts and Sciences invites
applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
(with or without tenure) with a joint appointment to the Department of Natural Sciences
and Department of Psychology beginning Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be
expected to pursue a research program that addresses areas of neuroscience from a
biochemical, cellular or molecular perspective, establish or maintain an externally
funded research program, and direct the research of students at the graduate and
undergraduate levels, as well as teach courses in our undergraduate neuroscience
major. In addition, the new hire will have the opportunity to help contribute to the
expansion of life sciences research within our Center for Health Inclusion, Research and
Practice (CHIRP). Candidates focusing their research in computational and/or non-
vertebrate models are particularly encouraged to apply.
Merrimack is committed to growing focused areas of research distinction, enabling
faculty to make high-impact contributions in their areas of expertise. The successful
candidate will play a pivotal role in creating an interdisciplinary hub for the Life Sciences
at Merrimack College to facilitate faculty research and provide opportunities for
undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to the advancement of basic and
translational science with real-world impact. As part of our strategic plan, the Agenda
for the Future, we are on the path to achieving Carnegie R2 designation for high
research productivity and have a vision to launch doctoral programs in applied life
sciences within the next five years, building on our recent success creating pathways to
education for historically underrepresented students, growing our graduate and honors
programs, and fostering experiential learning opportunities for our students.
The successful candidate’s research efforts will be supported by Merrimack’s new
Shared Instrumentation Research Facility (SIRF), a state-of-the-art life sciences research
facility fully equipped with an array of instrumentation and a dedicated lab manager
focused on supporting life sciences research. This faculty position will be integral to the
College’s pursuit of R2 status and contribute to interdisciplinary research growth across
the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Computational
Sciences, and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
