The Reed College Chemistry Department located in Portland, Oregon USA invites applications for a tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate would teach in the Organic Chemistry sequence (Chem 201/202) and the associated laboratory, teach an upper-level course that could contribute to the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology interdisciplinary major, develop and maintain an active research program involving synthetic organic and bioorganic chemistry, and advise senior thesis students in year-long research projects. Excellent facilities for teaching and research are available, including a new 400 MHz multinuclear NMR spectrometer, GC/MS, ICP-MS, triple quadrupole LC/MS, X-ray diffractometer (powder and single crystal), HPLC, TRIGA nuclear reactor, and more, supported by a full-time instrumentation chemist. Reed College provides faculty with generous start-up funding and lab space to support their research. A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment; postdoctoral experience is preferred, but not required.

The application, submitted via Interfolio consists of a Curriculum Vitae, a Cover Letter (1-2 pages) which details your specific interest in our position, a Teaching Statement (2-3 pages) which proposes your plans for an inclusive pedagogical program, three letters of reference, and a Research Statement (2-4 pages) which describes your short and long-term research goals involving undergraduate scholars in year-long thesis projects. In their materials, we encourage applicants to address Reed’s commitment to a diverse, antiracist and inclusive community as outlined in our institutional values, stated here. We will accept applications until October 1, 2024.

We welcome diverse, interdisciplinary candidates that are enthusiastic about inclusively teaching organic chemistry; please contact Dr. Kelly N. Chacón (they/them/elle) if you have any questions that would increase transparency around the above criteria, at any time.
