Specifically, as an urban-research university, we are particularly interested in scholars whose work touches on the pressing needs of cities and urban communities. Through our teaching, scholarship, and service, we strive to create an environment where every student at the University feels included and welcomed. We value the contribution of each individual in their commitment to a better University of Akron, and welcome applications that demonstrate experience working with students from different backgrounds, experiences and beliefs.

Successful candidates will be able to meet the roles of the department of chemistry in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences as part of UA’s overall mission as an urban-research university, including teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level, engaging in high impact research, and serving local, regional, and national chemistry communities.

Required Qualifications:

We welcome candidates who specialize in physical chemistry. In addition to teaching key chemistry curricula at the undergraduate and graduate level, these candidates will be expected to establish an independent, externally funded research group and carry out high-impact investigations that can be disseminated in quality peer review journals and invited or contributed presentations. Excellence in undergraduate teaching is a key requirement.

Successful candidates will have an earned Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or a related discipline and demonstrated active research experience in the study of physical chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with expertise in theory and calculations are preferred. Applicants with demonstrated experience during postdoctoral research in an academic, industrial, or national laboratory setting will be given favorable consideration. However, the requirement for experience past the doctoral degree may be waived for exceptional candidates. Research plans that complement existing strengths in the department and University community are highly desirable.
