Position Title: Assistant Professor of Chemistry (tenure-track)
Reports to: Chair of the Chemistry Department
Supervises: N/A
Primary function: Faculty member in the Department of Chemistry will teach Organic Chemistry lecture and labs, Chemistry lecture and labs, and other courses as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field.
- Postdoctoral position or teaching experience is preferred, it is not required.
- Qualified candidates will be committed to teaching excellence, scholarly activity and service to students in an ACS-approved department.
- The Department expects faculty and staff to have the willingness to work within a team, to help with recruitment, and to develop new curricula.
Preferred Attributes:
- Preference will be given to candidates that can contribute to multidisciplinary courses and research such as biochemistry.
- The successful applicant will be involved in undergraduate teaching in lower and upper-level chemistry courses, particularly organic chemistry, guiding senior research projects, and establishing an active research program involving undergraduates.
- The successful candidate will also teach in our Nurse Anesthetists Program (currently one graduate-level section per year.) In addition to teaching duties, the successful applicant will serve as faculty advisor to work with our Allied Health Students and serve on the Pre-Health Committee.
Departmental Background:
- The Chemistry department has a long history of commitment to the use of active learning pedagogies. Other responsibilities include student advising, service on college committees. The standard teaching load at Saint Vincent is a 4-4 (24 credits per year) load (At Saint Vincent laboratories count as two-credits toward a faculty member’s teaching load.) Course releases with a reduction during the probationary period are available.
- The organic chemistry lab has an FTIR and FT-NMR adjacent to the lab with a GC-MS (and a full suite of chromatographic and spectroscopic instrumentation) housed in a nearby lab. The Boyer School is housed in the Sis and Herman Dupre Science Pavilion, a LEED Gold certified building that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, interactions between students and faculty, and undergraduate research.
