Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks and in all areas of chemistry, subject to available funding. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to higher education through teaching, research, and service.

In addition to the open rank/open area search, applicants whose research programs broadly align with the themes of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AI+DA) in the areas of material science and generative AI are encouraged to apply, as Chemistry positions in these areas may be available through UT Austin’s Cluster Hiring Program in AI+DA.

Successful candidates are expected to establish and sustain a vibrant research program; serve as dedicated teachers and mentors to our increasingly diverse students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and assist in the administrative and governance functions of the department, the university and the profession via service on committees as appropriate.  Applicants at the assistant professor level must have a promising research agenda, and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate student education and success.  Applicants at the associate or full professor level must have a significant record of accomplishment in research, teaching, and service.

The Department of Chemistry's mission is to create new chemical knowledge while providing all of our students with an innovative and forward-looking scientific education grounded in the fundamentals of chemistry. The department and University have state-of-the-art core facilities and we are ranked 16th best graduate program in the United States by US News and World Report (2023 ed.).  We have a strong commitment to building and maintaining a supportive environment where all people can thrive.
