The University of Georgia Department of Chemistry (chem.uga.edu) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in MATERIALS CHEMISTRY, beginning August 1, 2025, at the level of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR. The successful candidate will have expertise in materials. Particular areas of interest include but are not limited to biomass characterization, biomass conversion, biorefinery process and product development, value-added biobased products and the circular bioeconomy, or polymers from renewable resources. This position is part of the University of Georgia “President’s Interdisciplinary Faculty Hiring Initiative in Sustainability,” which includes a faculty cluster in “Sustainable Materials.” Therefore, research synergy and collaborations across the STEM disciplines will be encouraged. The candidate will exhibit a commitment to teaching organic, inorganic, or materials chemistry at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A Ph.D. in chemistry or related field is required at time of appointment; 1 to 2 years of postdoctoral experience is desirable. Candidates will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, extramurally funded independent research program, which includes working on large, multidisciplinary grant proposals. Competitive applicants will have a strong research record, demonstrate creativity in their research plans, exhibit a commitment to excellence in mentoring and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and show a willingness to participate in department, college, university, and professional service.
