Empire Innovations Program/Cluster Hire with the focus on Biological Imaging, Biosensors, Cell Dynamics Analysis, and Optogenetics

Department of Cell & Developmental Biology and Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York. 

 

The Departments of Cell & Developmental Biology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, are seeking cluster hires for two tenure-track faculty positions. The cluster hire program is aimed at attracting faculty who are developing new technologies in the areas of imaging, image analysis, cell dynamics analysis, biosensors for detecting disease biomarkers and point-of-care diagnostics, and photomanipulation/optogenetic approaches with potential applications to human health and disease. These Empire Innovation Scholars will complement additional junior faculty hires in the two departments as part of a coordinated expansion effort.

 

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in cell or molecular biology, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, physics, or a related field, and currently hold the rank of an assistant or associate professor or a comparable leadership position in private industry. Applicants should have established track records of funding and research productivity. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous extramurally funded research program and participate in the education of medical and graduate students.

 

The successful candidates will join a thriving community of over 20 investigators with strengths in using intravital imaging and live-cell imaging to study cardiovascular development, pathogenesis of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, development and regeneration of vision photoreceptors and immune disorders and development of biosensors and diagnostic assays. Academic appointment will be commensurate with experience and will carry the title of an Associate Professor of Empire Innovation or Professor of Empire Innovation. Preference will be given to candidates currently at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, or comparable rank in industry.

 

This position is fully state-supported with a 12-month base salary, excellent health and retirement benefits, and competitive start-up funds. Our faculty are well supported by state-of-the-art imaging resources and outstanding institutional core facilities.
